What to expect at church

The Anglican Parish of Raymond Terrace

We are an open and inclusive group of Christians, worshipping God in Jesus Christ. People from many different Christian traditions make up our congregation. Our worship is based on A Prayer Book for Australia, and our music is both traditional and more modern.

These pages will let you browse around and find out something about what we do on Sunday, and indeed in the rest of the week, and why we do it. Perhaps you have not been to church for a very long time, or maybe not at all. We have tried to give you some idea what to expect if you came along to St John's Raymond Terrace on a normal Sunday Morning.

We have also tried to set out something about Christianity and the Anglican communion. You will find links to other sites that may help you if you want to know more.

Sunday Service Times

Our regular Sunday worship follows the Eucharish, or Holy Communion Service, in the Anglican Prayer Book for Australia. This is what Christians have done for almost the last two thousand years. Baptism and Holy Communion are the two most central of Christian services. We call them the Sacraments of the Lord, because in the Gospels we read Jesus' specific commandment to the church to do these two things. On the page "Church for the visitor," you will read more about this service and how it runs. If you are not familiar with church, have a look.

Sunday services are held each week at

  • 7.30am - Holy Eucharist
  • 9.00am - Parish Eucharist - Sung Eucharist with Choir
  • 6.00pm - Holy Eucharist - a quiet small service in the Chapel
  • (Sunday evening not help in January)
