Baptism
In Baptism we are made a part of God's family
We baptise Jesus commanded his followers to do so: In Matthew's Gospel we read Jesus' words after his resurrection: And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’
We read in the Acts of the Apostles of entire families being baptised (Acts 16:33).
The Anglican Church follows the practice of baptising infants and children, with sponsors or godparents, promising on behalf of the children to follow Christ, and to instruct their Godchildren in the Christian faith. When the children are of an age of understanding, it is expected that these children will be brought back to be prepared for Confirmation, when they will take the promises of being a Christian on their own responsibility.
